The New Year’s Day Parade through London included a great variety of acts and attractions with many visiting from the United States – from where the Parade has its history. Marching bands, musical acts (including X-Factor’s Che Chesterman) large balloons and dinosaurs, vintage and celebrity vehicles joined contributions from London’s boroughs down the route from Piccadilly to Parliament Street. Rain did its best to affect the event but the crowds remained and the participants smiled through it all non-the-less.
Whitehall was brought to a standstill in a protest against ‘uneven’ taxi regulation in London as drivers and their families came out in force near Downing Street, with roads gridlocked and eventually temporarily closed by police.
The protest, the second of its kind since July, was held because London’s black cab drivers believe Transport for London (TfL) are enforcing ‘uneven regulation’ in the taxi and private hire trade.
