RNLI Boxing Day Dip – Southend-on-Sea, Essex – 26 December 2016

Swimmers braved the cold waters of the Thames Estuary to raise funds for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution charity in this traditional winter ‘dip’. They weren’t put off by the chilling water temperature which was measured to be 6.1 degrees C, nor the equally bitter bright but fresh blustery weather. The entry fee (paid to the RNLI) included a reviving hot drink and mince pie on leaving the water. Many swimmers sported festive garb or fancy dress, whilst the RNLI attended to ensure their safety. More sensible visitors took advantage of the conditions to walk the pier and beaches – wearing far more suitable attire.

Goodwood Festival of Speed – Sunday 26 June 2016

The final day of the Festival of Speed culminated in the prize giving and interviews, with a number of the invited drivers speaking to those members of the public that had held on to the end despite the weather. That included actor Keanu Reeves who had ridden an Arch motorcycle over the weekend – Arch being a company that he had co-founded. Olly Clark took top honours in the hill climb in the Subaru Impreza ‘Gobstopper II’.

Goodwood Festival of Speed – Saturday 25 June 2016

Catching up with an event from the ‘summer’, the theme for this year’s Festival of Speed was ‘Full Throttle – The Endless Pursuit of Power’. Centred around a hill-climb through the estate, current and historic motor racing cars, bikes and drivers hurtled up the tight course which passes Goodwood House and the BMW central feature sculpture. The modern cars included Formula 1 teams and 2016 season drivers or test drivers, plus others from the more recent past. Also on show were the motoring industry’s latest models, from family hatch-backs to the fastest supercars – all looking for customers. Although the weather looked promising in the morning, it soon closed in to become overcast and wet.

Santa in the City charity run – London – 4 December 2016

Starting and finishing in the vicinity of St. Paul’s Cathedral, the Santa in the City charity run took in a number of the City’s landmarks in a 5k route – sometimes catching members of the public unawares. After the start the runners crossed over the Millennium Bridge towards Tate Modern, passed through the Tower area, before finishing in Paternoster Square.
